BIO

Luke LaMotta is a bassist, producer, music director, composer, and arranger who has built his musical identity around versatility, curiosity, and following a good idea wherever it leads. He currently performs with Amber Jane Taylor, Kyelen Arora, and Cam Marsalis and moves comfortably between jazz, rock, fusion, funk, country, metal, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, Afrobeat, and whatever else catches his ear. His approach centers on understanding what an artist is trying to communicate and helping bring that vision to life, whether through live performance, arranging, studio work, production, or music direction.
At Belmont University, LaMotta has performed in rock, jazz, and fusion ensembles, including performances with Mauricio Zottarelli, Frank Gambale, Stu Hamm, and Greg Howe. His arranging work includes writing for jazz band, orchestra, and Belmont’s Southbound ensemble. Outside of Belmont, he previously performed with Dylan Joseph and co-founded progressive/alternative rock band Velvet Mirage, releasing four singles before the group mutually disbanded to focus on individual projects. He also spent summer 2023 as a fill-in member of Washington, D.C. Afrofunk band Chopteeth. LaMotta began releasing original music in 2022 and continues developing his progressive jazz-hop sound through improvisation, arranging, experimental production, and a willingness to make things a little strange.
Today, LaMotta continues performing, producing, and writing original music while pursuing larger touring opportunities and expanding into media composition, particularly video games, which shaped his creativity from an early age and remain an important part of his life.
